Softball outlasted in 0-2 morning session at Space Coast Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 15, 2025) — Florida National softball (11-15) finished another day on the road with a winless outing, recording an 8-5 loss in a rematch against Aquinas College (12-9) and a 5-3 defeat at the hands of Lawrence Tech Universtiy (7-5).

In game one, FNU looked to get some revenge against the Aquinas Saints after falling 2-0 the previous afternoon. However, this would not come to fruition, as the Saints scored four runs in the fifth to help secure their dominance against the Conquistadors at the tournament.

The Saints started the game strong, recording two runs in the fifth off a wild pitch and an RBI triple. Pitcher Sophia White then conceded three earned runs and one unearned in the sixth. The Saints tallied a one-score double by Patrina Marsh and Katie Carlson. Emma Houseman also grabbed an RBI single hit close to White.

FNU finally came alive in the sixth, recording four runs to make it a two-run lead for AC. Madisyn Garduno posted a sacrifice fly to left field that ran in Ciara Santiago. Isabella Correa got in on the action, pelting a single to pitcher Raeann Drummond for a run by Gianna Hall.

FNU continued to keep the wheels moving, thanks in part to an RBI double by Alyssa Julien and a two-score triple by Alexandra Trenholm. With the score at 6-5, the Saints added two safety runs at the top of the seventh, capitalizing on an error by Santiago and an RBI fielder's choice by McKenna Hinkle. FNU ended the game with eight fewer hits than the Saints and three errors.

Game two for the Conquistadors started with a 2-2 score after the first inning. FNU got on the board first with an RBI double by Alissia Vega. Vega later scored on a double from Hall before Lawrence Tech got on offense.

Tech leveled the game on a one-score double by Lily Morrissette and a single by Gloriana Su'a that ran in Morrissette. LTU added two more runs and hits in the second before making it a 5-2 affair on Su'a's RBI single. FNU attempted a comeback with Alyssa Songer's RBI groundout that scored Tara McCaffery in the sixth, but fell short of the mark down the stretch.

Up Next: FNU's final day at the Space Coast Games features a doubleheader against Indiana University at South Bend tomorrow at 10 a.m.
