Conquistadors suffer winless afternoon at Space Coast Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 14, 2025) — Florida National (11-13) came up short in a 5-2 loss to Indiana Tech University (12-6) before dropping a 2-0 game to Aquinas College (11-9) out of Michigan. After Friday's slate, the Conquistadors have fallen in three of their last four contests at the 2025 Space Coast Games.

FNU softball missed the mark in its second meeting against the Indiana Tech Warriors, as Isabella Silva and Yleisha Perez were responsible for each Conquistador run in the loss. Silva had the best outing for FNU, going a perfect 2-2 from the batter's box. Alyssa Julien, Madisyn Garduno and Alissia Vega tallied a hit against a talented ITU pitching staff.

Warrior Carlye Walter pitched four innings from the circle, allowing two runs and claiming a strikeout. Relief pitcher Mallory Stinson took over in the last three frames, keeping FNU scoreless when they needed it most. Despite the loss, FNU's Sophia White returned to action for a 3.2-inning appearance for the sophomore. The Warriors had seven hits and an error from Carly Basham, and FNU moved on to its second game of the afternoon with five hits and two errors.

Game two was less of an offensive showcase for both sides, as Aquinas used two major plays in the third and fifth innings to deny FNU some late afternoon redemption. Second baseman Emma Houseman was clutch with an RBI single to centerfield, running in Kenzie Jordan to take a 1-0 lead in the third.

Abby Nieswender was the next Aquinas playmaker to get involved, pelting a sacrifice fly to advance Alea Fisher safely across home plate in the fifth. FNU's Brunella Beteta may have conceded a couple of costly runs, but the transfer walked only one batter and recorded two strikeouts opposite the Saints.

FNU had two hits in the loss, neither of which amounted to a run being placed on the board. Vega was the first to play in a ball, posting a single towards the Saints' shortstop in the first. Perez followed with a hit of her own in the second, but FNU had no answer through the last two frames.

The Conquistadors recorded two hits and no errors, and the Saints ended an undefeated afternoon with seven hits and two errors.

Up Next: Softball has two more games on the horizon tomorrow, opposite Aquinas College and Lawrence Tech University. The action begins at 10 a.m.
