New Kensington no match for Conquistadors in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, Fla. (March 12, 2025) — Baseball (15-10) continues its tear against USCAA competition, sweeping Penn State University New Kensington (0-6) on its final day in Vero Beach, Fla. FNU claimed a 12-3 win in game one before besting the Lions 14-4 to end the afternoon undefeated.

Game one started great for the visiting Conquistadors, as they commanded a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Christian Febus trippled to start the frame and later scored on a single by Fausto Sanchez. Pinch runner Cameron Josemond made it a 2-0 affair before Brian Jensen connected on a two-score single before the Lions ended the period.

PSU calmed things down in the second, before Febus brought home three runs on a strong home run to make it a 7-0 affair. The fifth and sixth innings were highlighted by RBI doubles by Jason Altuve and Adrian Roman, respectively.

Ryan Clearwater proved to be a man on a mission for the Lions, posting an RBI single and scoring PSU's third run of the day on a double by Matt Hodgins. Sean Walker also made it home in the sixth, scoring on a wild pitch. FNU finished the game with a two-run double by Cesar Mora and a run scored on a single by Roman.

The Conquistadors tallied 10 hits and no errors. PSU headed to game two with just five hits and two errors.

In game two, FNU's offense began to truly take off. Mora and Roman ran in three runs on their respective singles in the first before Caden Rupert's score made it a 3-1 affair entering the second. Josemond and Altuve both grabbed runs in the second before Febus ran home on a base fly out to left on Mora.

PSU's final runs came in the third and fourth frames, and FNU outscored the Lions 3-1 in the final three innings. Sanchez was on fire in the seventh with an RBI double and a run scored on a wild pitch by Ken Boyle.

Up Next: FNU will close out the week on March 15-16 by hosting Bryant & Stratton College Albany for a four-game series.
