Conquistadors improve to seven-straight wins Tuesday

HIALEAH, Fla. (March 11, 2025) — Florida National baseball (13-10) earned a solid sweep over Penn State University Fayette (1-7) on Tuesday, improving its current win streak to a program record of seven. FNU connected on 26 hits through both games and just two total errors.

In game one, FNU starting pitcher Mario Benjamin went to work for over five innings, allowing just one run while on the mound and one hit by pitch awarded. FNU was the first on the board with an RBI triple delivered by Fausto Sanchez in the first. PSU Fayette tied the game in the fourth on a single by Frank Macioce to give Dino Dolden the lone run of the afternoon.

What followed was an offensive onslaught from the home team, as FNU posted eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal the game. Christopher Rivera got things started with an inside-of-the-park home run before FNU tallied three RBI singles, a one-score double by Jason Altuve and an RBI fielder's choice by Kevin Dominici

Fayette ended the game with four hits and three costly errors before game two rolled around.

Early struggles for starter Josh Higgins helped the visitors post three runs in the opening frame. Remington Lessman claimed an RBI walk for the first run of the game, and a costly sacrifice bunt played in by Riley Henck added two scores to the board.

This was a short-lived victory for the Lions after Brian Jensen air-mailed a double that landed him in third and ran in three base runners to even the score once again. Jensen later gave FNU the lead on a sacrifice fly blasted by Endrys Nunez. FNU's advantage grew in the second after Sanchez scored on an error from the Lion's shortstop.

A five-run third inning made it a 10-3 affair before PSU went off for five runs of their own to keep things too close for comfort for the Conquistadors. PSU had two RBI doubles, a one-score single, and scored on an error from FNU's outfield.

Despite some great offensive output, FNU outscored PSU 7-3 down the stretch to usher in a sweep at Walker Park.FNU ended the evening with 14 hits and two errors.
