FNU held scoreless by Barry Buccaneers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Feb. 4, 2025) — Florida National (0-1) posted its first loss of the 2024-25 spring season against the NCAA DII Barry University Buccaneers (1-0) Tuesday. Barry was efficient and stout in both doubles and singles competition for its third 7-0 sweep over the Conquistadors in five seasons.

Doubles play was a bad omen for the Lady Conquistadors, as a Barry duo claimed all three courts. FNU's Nadia Abad and Alara Juelide Akgul faced a tough 6-0 loss to BU's Andrea Di Palma and Ailen Crespo. Natalia Calvo and freshman Julieta Deniz Reyes faced a similar fate against Maria Tatarnikova and Russian native Dinara Alloiarova, 6-0. A 6-1 loss from FNU's Lavinia Anais Karadža and Margaryta Malakhova rounded out Barry's early 1-0 lead heading into the afternoon's singles matches.

Singles play proved to be more heartache for the Conquistadors, as all six matches missed the mark for the visiting team in Miami Shores, Fla. Fabiola Bsereni and Julieta Deniz Reyes fell in their receptive matches by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

Abad ended her afternoon with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Barry's 5-2 sophomore Ailen Crespo. Julia Chodkowska had the best showing for the Florida National with a 6-3 loss to open her match against Louane Lutringer. In set two, Lutringer eventually claimed the point with a 6-1 victory.
