Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

Three-pointers tilt evenly matched battle in an 80-71 loss to COFO

HIALEAH, Fla. (Dec. 30, 2025) — Florida National men's basketball (4-7) fell short of a win against The College of the Ozarks Bobcats (5-7) Tuesday. COFO connected on eight threes while FNU laced just three on 14 attempts in an otherwise deadlocked dual at Bucky Dent Park.

This was FNU's final home game of the 2025 calendar year, as FNU was fueled by brilliant performances from Cameron Johnson and Jonathan Norman.

In the first 20 minutes, forward Ronald Fernandez did it all for FNU with 10 points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes. Hasmar Francois contributed six points but tallied four costly turnovers, as COFO built an impressive 49-25 lead at the break. The Bobcats shot the ball well at 51.7%, while FNU hung around the high 30s in the frame.

Garrett Snyder was efficient to say the least, with 14 points on 2-5 shooting from three and 5-8 from the floor overall. Jay Baxter and DJ Quarles were also a huge help, combining for 16 in a half, where FNU connected on just two threes to COFO's five.

As the second period rolled along, FNU looked primed for a comeback, especially with the way Norman was finishing at the rim and running the floor with great effort. The junior had eight points on 4-5 shooting, four rebounds, and an assist during the frame, but picked up a technical foul after getting into a verbal back-and-forth with one of the Ozarks' power forwards with eight minutes left. Johnson and Houston Culpepper were a big part of the Conquistadors' rebirth in the second, posting nine and seven points, respectively, pushing FNU's field goal percentage to 52.8 in the period.

The home team's offense helped them outscore the Bobcats 42-35 in the final 20, but COFO built a nice cushion in the first half and relied on 11 critical points from shooter Andrew Dalton to spoil FNU's night at Bucky Dent Park. The Conquistadors even made it an eight-point game with just over two minutes left on the clock, but COFO went 4-6 from the free-throw line and had just enough on the board to keep FNU at bay down the stretch.

The Conquistadors had four players in double figures in Francois (10), Fernandez (10), Norman (12) and Johnson (14). Fernandez brought down a team-high eight rebounds, while Francois dished out seven dimes.
