No. 8 Gyrenes defeat FNU 124-79

AVE MARIA, Fla. (Dec. 3, 2025) — Florida National men's basketball (3-5) dropped its third consecutive game, losing a competitive 124-79 battle to the NAIA's No. 8-ranked Ave Maria University Gyrenes (11-1). This is AMU's fourth straight win against FNU since 2023-24, and its eighth program win all-time against the Conquistadors.

In the first half of this showdown in Ave Maria, Fla., the Gyrene offense was firing on all cylinders with two players in double figures and nine different shooters contributing at least two points in the opening period. AMU's 57-42 lead was built on 59.4% shooting from the floor, including 10 made three pointers.

FNU's first half was solid despite a 3-9 performance from behind the arch, putting a damper on the Conquistadors' chances of an upset on the road. Gary Adams and center Jonathan Norman were huge with eight points apiece in the opening twenty, while Ronald Fernandez was busy early with seven.

Notably, freshman Serge Beauvoir III impressed with seven in 11 minutes, but was unable to hold off an aggressive Gyrene squad in front of the AMU faithful.

When play resumed in the second half, the Gyrene offense seemed to settle in for an incredible 67-point frame. Outscoring the Conquistadors by 30 in the final 20 minutes, AMU was fueled primarily by six made threes and pinpoint precision at the basket. The home team shot 64.3% from the floor in the second, at a clip that FNU could not match.

Michael Klekas and Jai White combined for 33, while Bradley Alcime and Mitchell Lee each had eight in under 15 minutes on the court. Everyone was eating, as every Gyrene player that stepped on the court entered their name into the box score with a bucket, and Ave Maria tallied 10 second-half assists.

Hasmar Francois did manage to assert himself early with 12 points in the period, and Beauvoir continued to make an impact with eight points, two rebounds and an assist. FNU also saw the return of Cameron Johnson, as the senior was clutch with seven points in the half to end the night with eight in 12 minutes.

Norman ended the evening with a team-high seven rebounds while Francois paced the team once again with 17 points. Beauvoir's big night culminated in 15 points to go along with three boards.

Up Next: FNU stays on the road with a 4 p.m. game on Dec. 6.
