Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Brenda Bogle

Volleyball uses a split afternoon for USCAA Championship Round appearance

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 7, 2025) — Women's volleyball (15-15) booked a trip to the USCAA title round, following a 1-1 performance on day two of the 2025 USCAA Division I Volleyball National Championship. The Conquistadors fell 3-1 to No. 1-seeded Paul Quinn College (18-14) before taking care of business against the Carlow University Celtics (8-18), 3-0.

FNU faced a tough and close four sets against the Tigers, falling 25-21 and 25-20 in the first two games. PQC tallied 18 kills in the first, paced by five from Carrie Weston. Kitula Amaya Morales' third kill of the early goings gave FNU a 7-5 lead, but Paul Quin pulled away for an 18-16 lead on back-to-back kills from Weston. Jakayla Morrow and Weston's final kills of the frame ended set one and set two was another tough showing for the Conquistadors.

FNU tallied nine kills but had 11 costly errors that were enough to keep the Tigers in control at the end of the second. PQC's defense came up big with a block on Ariana Long to give the Tigers a 2-0 match advantage. FNU finally got some momentum in the third, forcing a fourth frame behind a 25-18 performance. Morales had four kills in the third, and Ivette Sandoval moved the ball well for eight assists in the third.

Chriselle Ferdinand had three kills in the first two sets and exploded for seven in the third, but FNU did not have enough in the tank to survive a fourth frame against a tough Tiger squad. Jayden Jones had the game-winning kill and the Tigers' 51st kill of the match. FNU was held to just six successful kills down the stretch as Morales had a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs. Jaylin Garcia and Long combined for 24 digs, and Sandoval posted 23 assists.

In its second match of the day, FNU faced a familiar foe in Carlow University. These teams have met six times in their storied history, with FNU posting an unbeaten record since 2016. FNU cruised to a 25-12 win in set one Friday night, with 13 kills to open the match. The Conquistadors limited mistakes with just three attacking errors, using a kill and a block from Keelee Okoro to end the first.

Florida National faced more resistance in the second before pulling away for a 25-19 win to take a 2-0 lead. Long, Morales, and Ferdinand each recorded a kill to ice the frame. FNU had 20 kills and held the Celtics to nine kills and three errors. FNU's offense was especially explosive in the third, going on a 6-0 run to win the frame 25-14.  Ferdinand posted three service aces midway through the set and had two Taysha Ortega service aces at the tail end of the game.

Ferdinand and Morales combined for 27 kills while Long had seven kills and ten digs.

Up Next: FNU looks to avoid a second-place finish with a 12:30 p.m. match tomorrow against Paul Quinn. If FNU wins, both teams will face off again immediately following the conclusion of the game to crown a champion.
