Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

FNU falls to TCJ, 74-73

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2025) — Conquistador men's basketball (1-1) had an excellent second-half scoring run come up just short in a 74-73 loss to the Trinity College of Jacksonville Eagles (1-2) Thursday night. Hasmar Francois, Houston Culpepper and Ronald Fernandez paced the Conquistadors with 14 points each in FNU's second-ever program loss to the Eagles.

In the first half, TCJ was in full control with a healthy 18-3 lead on a made jumper from Maximus Fuentes. In the final three minutes of the period, however, FNU went on a 9-4 run led by six points from senior Gary Adams. The Eagles led by as many as 17, but a collective effort from the Conquistador put the game well within reach.

After half-time, both teams were locked in a heated battle with neither side fully putting the final nail in the coffin. Fernandez was a huge part of FNU's success with 10 points, and it wasn't long before FNU took a 71-70 lead on a statement dunk from Francois with 3:56 on the clock. Fuentes put the Eagles back in the lead with a clutch jump shot a minute later, and newcomer Helquis Pulido split a pair of free throws to make it 72-72 with 97 seconds left to play.

Tayden Owens was forced to be the hero for the Eagles, sprinting to the basket for a crafty layup and forcing an FNU timeout to advance the ball. Culpepper was subsequently fouled and went one for two from the line, giving the Eagles a shaky one-point advantage in the last two possessions of the game. FNU's defense did what it needed to do, forcing an Eagle turnover on their next trip down the floor.

Out of a timeout, Culpepper took a contested shot that danced off the rim as the buzzer signaled the end of the game. Notably, Trevon Clark was great off the bench with eight points while Omar Baqai and Pulido combined for 10.

Up Next: Men's basketball is back on the court Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. on the road against Warner University.
