Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

Conquistadors defeat Warner for the first time since 2019-20

LAKE WALES, Fla. (Nov. 11, 2025) — Florida National men's basketball (2-1) used a clutch three-pointer from newcomer Houston Culpepper with seconds remaining to close out a 77-75 win over the Warner University Royals (1-4). FNU snapped a five-game losing skid against the Royals and claimed its first win at the Turner Athletic Center since 2020.

Florida National entered halftime with a comfortable 10-point lead off an eight-point burst by Gary Adams. Omar Baqai and Hasmar Francois were a huge part of the Conquistadors' first-half success with six and seven points, respectively.

FNU shot an impressive 51.7% from the field and cleaned up on the class with 18 rebounds to the Royals' nine. Ronald Fernandez led this race with four boards, while Warner was kept afloat by four rebounds and eight points from Josh Irwin.

When play resumed in the second, Warner came alive from the first whistle with a three from Jamal Norris to push FNU's lead to single digits. Bryson Castillo was on an offensive tear with 19 points in a 6-10 performance from the floor. With 14 from Norris, FNU saw Warner make it a 74-72 affair with two minutes remaining.

Defensively, Norris had a tough steal on a Fernandez turnover, setting up Seth Childers for a three-pointer to give Warner a one-point lead with 29 seconds left in the game. Florida National, to its credit, executed a clutch three from Culpepper to put FNU back on top by two with one second remaining. A Castillo heave from long range was unsuccessful, and the Conquistadors exited Lake Wales, Fla., victorious.

Francois had a team-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds. Culpepper ended his timely run with a near double-double of 14 points and seven rebounds, and Jonathan Norman had a nice night of nine points and four rebounds.

Up Next: FNU's second of three games this week is set for tomorrow on the road against Webber International University at 7 p.m.
