Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

Late free throws halt FNU’s second-half comeback against WIU

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Nov. 12, 2025) — Conquistador men's basketball (2-2) found itself in its third one-possession game on the road through four contests this season, falling to Webber International University (2-3) Wednesday 67-65. FNU trailed by as many as 17 in the second half but saw its late scoring run come up just short of an upset.

Webber International went into halftime with a 36-42 lead off 20 combined points from Nirobi Peeler Jr. and Johnny Torrence Jr. The three-ball proved to be a huge factor for the Warriors as they went 4-9 from the floor, while FNU was just 2-10. The Conquistadors shot 38.5% in the half, paced by five points from Hasmar Francois and eight combined points from Gary Adams and Omar Baqai

WIU's lead ballooned to 17 five minutes into the second, thanks to a jumper in the paint from Landon Tillman. FNU then went on an impressive 15-1 run, highlighted by a made three-pointer from Trevon Clark to make it a 49-46 battle midway through the frame. FNU later relied on made free throws from Francois, Houston Culpepper and Ronald Fernandez for its next four points over four minutes.

FNU's next field goal came from a stellar three-pointer by Adams to cut Webber's lead back down to six. Adams and Francois were huge with a layup and a dunk in transition to make it a 61-57 game in favor of the home team. Adams continued to answer the call for FNU, putting up a tough layup under heavy pressure at the rim to tie the game at 61 before Morgan Thomas used a put-back on the other end to regain the lead for the Warriors.

A free-throw competition ensued in the final two minutes as Adams and Clark knocked down huge shots from the charity stripe to tie the game. Webber's next possession ended in an air ball from Iverson Plaza, giving FNU possession with 42 seconds left. Unfortunately, Adams was called for an offensive foul as a Webber defender stepped up for a timely charge with 28 seconds left. Webber ran the clock down to nine seconds, took a timeout, and was able to draw a controversial foul by Fernandez with one second left, sending Tillman to the line.

Tillman was 6-6 from the free-throw line up to that point and kept it perfect with a pair of huge shots to essentially ice the game for FNU in heartbreaking fashion. Adams had a team-high 17 points on 6-8 shooting while Culpepper posted eight rebounds and six points. Clark had a breakout game from the bench with 16 and two steals, while Francois did a little of everything with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Up Next: Men's basketball has its first home game of the season set for Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. against the Trinity College of Florida Tigers.
