Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

A Fernandez near double-double pushed FNU past TCF Tigers

HIALEAH, Fla. (Nov. 15, 2025) — Florida National men's basketball (3-2) routed the Trinity College of Florida Tigers (0-2), 94-70, for its first home win of the young season. Ronald Fernandez led the charge with 19 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in 24 minutes.

In the opening half, Florida National found success early by feeding Fernandez the ball underneath the basket or kicking to the open shot outside after penetrating to the basket. FNU shot 48.7% from the field in the opening half and forced 20 turnovers from the Tigers. As a result, FNU went into the break up 46-31 with great energy radiating off its bench.

Notably, Omar Baqai had six points in the frame on 3-7 shooting, and Helquis Pulido used his frame to bully his way to the basket for six points. It was truly a group effort, as starters Gary Adams and Hasmar Francois combined for 16 in ten minutes of play. Brock D'Alesandro paced TCF with eight points while shooter Timothy Trimmings knocked down two of the Tigers' three made three-pointers in the half.

The second period was more of the same for FNU despite seven TCF players scoring at least one basket in the final 20. FNU's Mekhi Hudson-Dillard was the spark off the bench FNU needed with 16 points in the frame, including a back-to-back steal that led to points on the other side of the court midway through the period. Defensively, Gabriel Chang added another steal to his five in the first half, and FNU forced 11 turnovers. Hudson-Dillard and Pulido did the heavy lifting on the glass with 11 of FNU's 25.

Along with 19 from Fernandez, Hudson-Dillard had 16 points and eight rebounds. Baqai added 10 points off the bench while Pulido and Orlando Martinez each had eight.

Up Next: FNU is back on the road for a 6 p.m. game against No. 25-ranked Keiser University next Wednesday.
