Conquistadors open USCAA Championship with 3-1 win over Bay Path

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 6, 2025) — Florida National (14-14) pulled away late against the Bay Path University Wildcats (13-8) to open the 2025 USCAA Division I Volleyball National Championship with a 3-1 victory. Kitula Amaya Morales paced the No. 2-seeded Conquistadors with 15 kills while Taysha Ortega recorded 16 assists.

In the opening set, the reigning third-place team in this tournament claimed a 1-0 lead on a 25-19 performance in set one. FNU took control of the match behind 14 kills and one attacking error in the frame. Lily Hitchcock's first kill of the game put FNU up 13-7, and a 12-6 Conquistador scoring run helped to end set one.

Baypath came alive in the second for an unprecedented 25-18 win to level the match at one apiece. The Wildcats held FNU to just nine kills, and the Conquistadors had a costly eight errors in the loss. BPU's Anastasiya Tsetko had seven kills in the second and a rare service error from Morales sent both sides to the opposite bench for round three of this battle in Uniontown.

Set three was FNU's return to form with an explosive 10 kills while conceding just six kills for the Wildcats. Shanayah St Phard made it a 9-8 Florida National lead with a service ace, but set off an impressive 6-0 Conquistador run. Bay Path was forced to take a time out to stop the bleeding, trailing 15-8, but FNU comfortably claimed the third game shortly thereafter on back-to-back kills from Ariana Long and Chriselle Ferdinand.

To close out the match, FNU pulled away despite a tug of war in the early goings. Ferdinand and Morales were a big part of FNU's run, with two crucial kills from Morales and a pair of service aces from the freshman outside hitter. The Conquistadors proved to be too much for Bay Path to handle down the stretch as the Wildcats tallied a -.158 hitting percentage to end the match.
Long led the way with 13 digs while Grace Leffler, Hitchcock and Ferdinand combined for six of FNU's eight assisted blocks.
