Eighteen from Francois highlights loss to UVI

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 24, 2025) — Florida National men's basketball (3-4) dropped its second straight game to the University of the Virgin Islands Buccaneers (1-2) 80-63 Monday. This was FNU's lone game of the 2025 Keiser University Thanksgiving Classic.

In the first half of action from West Palm Beach, Fla., Florida National trailed 40-28 heading into halftime. Buccaneer Eliyah Stevens paced the Virgin Islands with 10 points on 5-8 shooting from the floor. Starters Sebastian Dokum and Brandon Rasmussen combined for 17 of UVI's first-half points, helping the Buccaneers shoot 47.1% from the field.

FNU's less-than-ideal three-point shooting of 28.6% was not helping their cause in the early stretch of the game, despite Hasmar Francois putting in nine of FNU's 28 in the frame. Gabriel Chang was electric off the bench with five points and a pair of assists, but UVI was on clean-up duty, outrebounding FNU 22-10.

Notably, Jesus Rivas was great off the bench with four rebounds and a block in just eight minutes on the court.

As play resumed, FNU kept up with the Buccaneers but was ultimately outscored 40-35 in the final 20 minutes of play. UVI's hot streak was just as potent in the second, shooting 53.6%, and Devin Binyard had ten points off the bench to help keep his team ahead down the stretch. For FNU, Ronald Fernandez shook off a two-point first half to end the game with seven points and two rebounds in the second half. Francois continued to use his athleticism for nine second-half points and a pair of steals.

UVI, to its credit, did not let up in the final minutes, scoring four unanswered points and ending the game on a dunk from Khari Person. The Bucs had five players end the game in double digits and outrebounded FNU 42-33 in a game where both teams had over 15 turnovers.

Francois' breakout game ended with 18 points, three assists and four boards. Fernandez had nine points to go along with three dimes, while Houston Culpepper came up big defensively with three steals.

Up Next: FNU returns to exhibition action with a 4 p.m. game against Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla., Saturday.
