Volleyball falls to No. 14 STU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2025) — Florida National volleyball (13-14) had a less than spooktacular time in its final regular-season match, dropping a three-set contest to No. 14-ranked St. Thomas University (21-4). Ariana Long led the team with nine of FNU's 30 kills and had a team-high 14 digs.

Florida National hosted St. Thomas on Oct. 7 and was able to steal set two before dropping the contest 3-1. On Friday, FNU kept things close in the first with 14 kills in the opener. Chriselle Ferdinand's second kill of the set put FNU ahead 15-14, but STU hung around to even things out towards the end of the frame. Taysha Ortega bumped over a kill to tie the set at 17 all before STU went on an 8-2 run to take a 1-0 match lead.

The Bobcats pulled away in the second with an impressive 25-16 victory behind 11 kills and just three attacking errors. FNU was right in the mix with ten kills but struggled to execute with seven costly errors in the set. Kitula Amaya Morales and Ferdinand combined for five kills before Carolina Cruz's seventh kill emphatically ended the second.

The final set was more of the same for FNU, falling 25-15. The Conquistadors had an early 6-4 lead after a successful attack by Keelee Okoro. The Bobcats stormed back midway through the third, commanding a 17-12 lead on a kill from Alexandra Bruno. Cruz's final kill in the afternoon and back-to-back attacking errors by Long were enough to earn STU its 21st win of 2025.

Ivette Sandoval had team-highs in assists (16) and service aces (3), while Okoro and Lily Hitchcock each had an assisted block.

Up Next: FNU is set to face Bay Path University in the USCAA National Championship Tournament on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.
