Zandona Tajra nets two goals to shut out CAC foe Florida College

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2025) — Two unassisted goals from junior Fabio Zandona Tajra were all it took for Florida National's (6-1-3, 2-0-0) men's soccer team to best fellow Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) member, Florida College (5-4-1, 1-1-0) Friday. The Falcons saw their two-game win streak come to an end, and FNU moves to 8-2-0 against FC since 2015.

FC and FNU entered Milander Park undefeated through one conference match, each having beaten then-No. 6-ranked Bellevue University the previous week. The Conquistadors got to work early in this conference matchup, recording a 20-minute goal from Zandona Tajra to take a 1-0 lead.

A corner kick from Juan Pugin crowded the box and set up a shot attempt from Juan Ignacio Latorre that was blocked by FC's backline. Despite the great defensive stop, the ball ricocheted, landing at the waiting feet of Zandona Tajra for a stellar strike out of reach of NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week, Filip Borka.

FNU relied on this advantage the rest of the way, picking up six shots and three corner kicks before the half came to a close. The Falcons looked to regroup with just two shots taken and one corner drawn in the period.

When play kicked off from center field, FNU and FC battled for control in the middle of the field. Falcon Yorgen Torres and Thiago Santos Bayer were both given yellow cards due to hard fouls in goal-scoring areas on the pitch. FC's third foul in a row set up a free kick for Zandona Tajra, and the midfielder wasted no time launching a perfect bouncing ball towards the right bottom corner of the net to double FNU's lead in the 75th minute.

FC had one last opportunity to net a goal in the 88th before goalkeeper Vitor Caetano Pedrosa fell on top of the ball despite massive traffic in the penalty area. He ended the match with two saves, facing two shots on goal. Borka headed home with six saves, including impressive diving efforts to thwart shots from Bayer and Santiago Martinez Gonzalez in the second half.
