Webber spoils FNU’s night in Babson Park

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2025) — Conquistador volleyball (13-13) dropped its second match this week, conceding a 3-0 match to the Webber International University Warriors (8-18). Webber previously defeated FNU on Sept. 17 in a thrilling five-set match.

In the opening set Wednesday night, WIU claimed a 25-20 win to take a 1-0 lead. FNU did not help its case with 11 kills but 10 attacking errors. Kitula Amaya Morales and Chriselle Ferdinand combined for eight of those 11 FNU kills, but were outscored 15-10 through the midway point of the frame. Hailey Mull's fourth kill of the first ended FNU's hopes of a comeback and forced both teams to switch benches ahead of the second.

The Warriors tallied an impressive 14 kills in the second set, allowing 12 from the Conquistadors en route to a 2-0 lead. WIU's 25-18 win was fueled by a seven-kill frame from standout outside hitter Kaylee Hunt. Morales was able to tie the set at 15 all on her third kill of the set, but WIU pulled away on a 10-3 scoring run and ended the second with another thunderous termination from Mull.

In the final set of the evening, FNU lost a late-set lead for the second time this week. Against Ave Maria University the previous night, FNU led 22-15 before the Gyrenes stormed back to steal a third-set victory at Bucky Dent Park. Similarly, WIU trailed 17-9 after a kill from Ariana Long, and FNU continued to hit well, taking a commanding 21-13 lead on a kill from Morales.

Webber responded with an unfortunate 7-0 run, eventually tying the frame at 24 after an attacking misstep by freshman Grace Leffler. FNU was one point away from closing the set after a kill from Ivette Sandoval, but it was back-to-back attacking errors from Long and Leffler and a kill from Hunt that ended FNU's night in Babson Park, Fla.

Morales had a 14-kill evening, and Sandoval posted 13 assists. Keelee Okoro and Morales each recorded two blocks, while Sandoval had a team-high 18 digs.

Up Next: FNU faces another Sun Conference giant, taking on top-ranked St. Thomas University on Halloween. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
