Conquistadors earn first win at home, move to 6-0 in CAC play

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2025) — Florida National volleyball (13-11, 6-0) posted its first win at Bucly Dent Park through three home matches, defeating Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) rival Florida College (14-16, 4-2) in straight sets. FNU previously defeated the Falcons 3-0 on Sept. 26 and has its first win streak against FC since 2021.

FC entered this match looking to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to one of the top-ranked teams in the nation, St. Thomas University. It was the second time this season FC fell to STU by two sets and were looking to bounce back from its lone conference loss against FNU in a noon contest.

The Conquistadors were able to pull away through three close frames against the Falcons, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21. In the opener, FNU was paced by a nine-kill performance from sophomore Kitula Amaya Morales. Morales' final kill of the frame put FNU ahead 24-21, and Margarida Almeida's service errors a couple plays later put FNU ahead 1-0.

As play continued, FNU came out strong in the second with a consistent three-point lead through the majority of the frame. Almeida's attacking error and a timely kill by Morales claimed the second set for the home team. In what would be the final frame of the afternoon, FC looked primed to extend the game, leading by as much as three points at the crucial midway point of the frame.

FNU was able to regain control on a 6-2 run to take a 20-19 lead. As both teams exchanged blows, Chriselle Ferdinand used a pass from Ivette Sandoval to make it a 22-21 affair, and Morales's final two kills of the game helped put the final touches on FNU's sixth conference win of 2205.

Ariana Long had a team-high 11 digs. Morales tallied 18 kills, bringing her season total to 214. Sandoval and Taysha Ortega combined for 34 assists.

Up Next: FNU's senior day is set to take place Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. against Ave Maria University.
