Conquistadors score seven goals in shutout win over TCJ Eagles

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2025) — Conquistador men's soccer (8-3-3) earned a much-needed win over the newly minted Trinity College of Jacksonville Eagles (7-6-0) Tuesday, posting four first-half goals in their 7-0 rout on the road.

FNU came into this match fresh off a painful 4-0 loss to the NAIA's No.15-ranked Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies. FNU exited the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic 1-1, surviving a close 2-1 game against Carolina University last Thursday.

Tuesday's battle versus the Eagles saw FNU get ahead in a hurry on a 14th-minute goal by Juan Pugin, assisted by David Luque Rivero. Four minutes later, Luque made it a 2-0 affair on an unassisted stunner, leaving the Eagles' backline off balance. Luque continued to press the issue, burying passes from Fabio Zandona Tajra and Filipe Sette Ribeiro for the Seville, Spain, native's second goal of the afternoon.

Ribeiro was essential to Pugin's second goal of the match, setting up the Argentinian striker with 11 minutes left in the period. TCJ's offense was a non-factor, tallying one shot the entire first half. Goalkeeper Vitor Caetano Pedrosa had a relatively quiet return after drawing a red card in FNU's win over Carolina, recording no saves through 90 minutes.

In the second half, FNU's relentlessness on offense was on full display. Newcomer Michael Olszewski made a splash with goals in the 67th and the 83rd. In the 81st, Ribeiro swung a ball to freshman Augusto Pugin, facilitating the Buenos Aires, Argentina, native's second goal of the season.

Notably, Thomas Alexander Meredith was credited with an assist on Olszewski's first goal, while Ribeiro grabbed his fourth assist on the second Olszewski score.

FNU ended the match, conceding just two TCJ shots and drawing 10 corner kicks. The Conquistadors posted 22 shots and committed five fouls through 90 minutes.
