Conquistadors move to 5-0 against conference opponents

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Oct. 11, 2025) — Florida National (12-11, 5-0) exits the 2025 Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic with wins over tournament hosts Carolina University (15-9, 2-2) and Fisher College(12-8, 0-4). Kitula Amaya Morales had 22 kills against the Bruins, and Chriselle Ferdinand led the way with 12 against the Falcons.

Versus the Bruins, FNU got off to a hot start with a 25-22 win in set one and a 25-14 triumph in set two. In the opener, an attacking misstep by Karli Totel gave FNU its first lead down the stretch, and FNU never looked back. FNU went on a 4-3 run before back-to-back kills from Morales put FNU ahead 1-0. The next frame was a dominant showing for FNU, as the Conquistadors forced 11 Carolina attacking errors and posted nine kills to double their match lead.

In the third, however, Carolina extended the game with a gritty 25-22 victory. FNU was held to just eight kills, and Carolina used a kill by Jordan Connolly to end the frame. Notably, Morales had five kills in the third. Luckily for FNU, they rallied for an impressive 25-15 win in the fourth to end the match. A pair of Bruins attacking errors and a kill from Ferdinand put FNU ahead 15-12, and FNU outscored Carolina 10-3 to close out its third CAC win this season.

Morales had a huge game with 20 digs to go with her 22 kills, while Taysha Ortega and Ivette Sandoval combined for 35 of FNU's 38 assists.

Against Fisher, FNU extended its winning streak against the Falcons to seven, grabbing its sixth consecutive 3-0 win over FC. The Conquistadors took set one off a monster performance from Morales and Keelee Okoro. The sophomore had two service aces and two kills, and FNU was able to claim the set of Okoro's fifth kill of the game.

Set two saw FNU continue to apply pressure to the Falcon's defense. FNU had a game-high 15 kills in its 25-23 win, weathering a late run from the Falcons with back-to-back kills from Morales to take a 2-0 lead. The third set was FNU's best performance of the match, icing out their opponent 25-15 despite allowing 11 FC kills. Ferdinand had three of her final four kills at the crucial end of the set, sealing a perfect 4-0 weekend for the Conquistadors in the Tar Heel state.

Ariana Long was crucial to the victory, posting a team-high 13 digs. Sandoval had 19 assists.

Up Next: FNU returns home for its third home match of the season, hosting CAC foe Florida College Oct. 17 at noon.
