Men’s soccer falls to No. 15 GGC 4-0

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2025) — Conquistador men's soccer (7-3-3, 3-1-0) conceded two first-half goals in its 4-0 loss to the NAIA's No. 15-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies (7-2-3, 1-0-0). GGC's stifling defense held Florida National scoreless for the first time this season, dropping the Conquistadors to 2-3-1 against the Grizzlies since 2015.

Coming into the match, FNU held on for a 2-1 victory against the Carolina University Bruins on Thursday, losing its starting goalkeeper to a red card in the 66th minute. Freshman Joaquin Di Julio finished the game against the Bruins and got the start for Vitor Caetano Pedrosa Saturday against the top-25 Grizzlies.

GGC didn't waste much time getting on the board, using an unassisted goal from Pedro Nunes to take its first lead of the match. It was the Orlando, Fla., native's first goal of the season and put real pressure on FNU to get the game leveled once again. Soon, tempers flared as Ricardo Delwing earned a yellow card while attempting to get the ball out of a defender's hands to resume play.

GGC took advantage of FNU's uneasiness on defense, and a beautiful cross delivered by Gabriel Martins left Ousmane Fall with a 1v1 opportunity on the left side of the box. The 6-2 freshman used his length to sneak his shot past the diving arms of Di Julio, making it a 2-0 affair. In the 24th, Diego Lozano had his shot on goal saved by goalkeeper Victor Darub. With four minutes remaining in the half, David Luque Rivero was awarded a yellow card after a hard foul on a GGC defender that dispossessed the ball from his feet.

FNU tallied four shots in the first half while GGC had two.

In the second half, the game began to get away from the visiting Conquistadors. Thiago Santos Bayer managed to moonball a shot in the 52nd before Darub caught it in midair. Thirty seconds later, a challenge from Fall against Delwing allowed him to take possession of the ball in a dangerous area, netting his second goal of the match on a powerful strike.

GGC did not stop its relentless pursuit, making it a 4-0 game with Nic Peranitsch's third goal of the season in the 68th. FNU looked for chances to score but ended the half with two shots, subbing some players from its bench with around 20 minutes left.

GCC ended its first conference win with a total of 15 shots, two corners and three saves for Darub. Di Julio's second start of the season saw the Argentinian tally four saves.

Up Next: FNU continues to hit the road, facing Trinity College of Jacksonville on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
