Ferdinand powers FNU to unbeaten afternoon at CAC Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Oct. 10, 2025) — Florida National volleyball (10-11, 3-0) grabbed a pair of impressive triumphs opposite Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) schools, defeating the Hesston College Larks (4-11, 0-2) and Haskell Indian Nations University (6-24, 1-2) on the first day of the CAC Classic.

FNU started its four-game slate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and began with an exciting 3-2 victory over conference newcomer Hesston College. The Conquistadors took an early 1-0 lead off a six-kill performance from freshman Chriselle Ferdinand and two timely attacks from Keelee Okoro. FNU rallied midway through the frame after falling behind 11-8 on a successful attack by Lillian Dolberry. Ariana Long was able to end the set thanks to a solid pass from Ivette Sandoval.

Hesston would not go away, leveling the contest in a thrilling 26-24 set-two victory. FNU tallied seven attacking errors in the set, but was still able to keep things close. Ferdinand's ninth kill of the morning tied things up at 24 apiece, but HC pulled away with an attacking error from Ferdinand and a kill from Dolberry.

Despite this clutch victory, FNU powered back in front in the third, defeating Hesston 25-21. FNU held the Larks to just 10 kills and four attacking errors with a fourth frame en route. The Larks continued to hang around, ultimately forcing a fifth and final game on eight kills from Lydia Foster in the fourth. Ferdinand was once again the difference maker, posting back-to-back kills to give FNU a crucial 10-7 lead. Toward the end of the contest, Grace Leffler grabbed a timely kill, and FNU forced an attacking error from Foster to end the match.

Ferdinand ended the match with 23 of FNU's 64 kills, and Sandoval had 27 assists. Ferdinand and Long both had over 20 digs.

Against Haskell, FNU faced three close sets against a tough, experienced Haskell squad. The Conquistadors claimed the opener 25-21, although they had a comfortable 22-15 lead after a successful kill from Ferdinand. Haskell's late surge was cooled after Ferdinand had the set-ending kill, and in the second, Okoro and Ferdinand combined for a clutch kill to give FNU a 28-26 victory.

FNU iced their third conference win this season, allowing just 10 Haskell kills down the stretch. Ferdinand led the way with 20 kills and a team-high 13 digs. Taysha Ortega and Ivette Sandoval combined for 37 of FNU's 40 assists.
