Conquistadors outlast Bruins in Georgia 2-1

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 10, 2025) — Florida National men's soccer (7-2-3, 3-0-0) defeated the Continental Athletic Conference's (CAC) Carolina University Bruins (4-3-1, 0-1-0) Thursday, remaining unbeaten in conference play through three matches.

In the first half, FNU and Carolina were in a fierce deadlock until the 23rd minute of the match. Leading goalscorer Filipe Sette Ribeiro netted his eighth score of the season thanks to a cross from David Luque Rivero. FNU maintained its lead into the break, ending the half with seven shots. CU's Will McCamley had one of his shots blocked by an FNU defender, and Karell Buitendijk had a similar outcome on his shot attempt in the 34th minute.

Goalkeeper Vitor Caetano Pedrosa recorded two saves before the referee's whistle ended the frame. Both teams had two shots on goal, and the Bruins forced all five of the periods' corners in their favor.

In the second, it didn't take long for FNU to double its advantage off an unassisted goal by Luque 41 seconds into the half. In the 66th, Caetano was sent off with a red card, paving the way for Joaquin Di Julio to take over the remaining 24 minutes.

The Bruins finally broke through and got on the board in the 82nd with an unassisted goal by McCamley. Luque's sixth goal of 2025 was more than enough to ice out Carolina in Georgia, despite FNU allowing six shots from the Bruins in the closing 45 minutes.

The Conquistadors ended their second-ever matchup against Carolina with no corner kicks and nine shots.
