FNU’s superb performance overwhelms TBC on the road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 24, 2025) — Florida National baseball (1-0) totaled 14 hits in an astounding 20-7 win over the Trinity Baptist College Eagles (0-1) Friday. In the first of three road games to start the 2025 regular season, FNU's Christopher Rivera went 4-5 while first baseman Erick Rodriguez had two hits in four visits to the batter's box.

In the first inning, FNU got on the board first with a two-RBI home run by Rodriguez. This was a prelude to Florida National's brilliant offensive performance, as the Conquistadors added two more runs before the frame was over behind Fausto Sanchez's two-RBI double. At the bottom of the inning, starting pitcher Alexis Dubeau made quick work of the top of the order for the Eagles, allowing just one hit in the opener.

The Conquistadors made it an 8-0 affair in the second, capitalizing on a stolen base from Christian Febus and two errors in the open field by the home team. Dubeau delivered a quick three-up, three-down performance to close out the inning, and FNU continued to pile on the runs in the third. Notably, FNU totaled three more stolen bases thanks to clean base running from Samuel Del Valle and Febus.

FNU posted four runs in the third and forced two more Eagle errors before each team went scoreless in the following inning. Catcher Cesar Mora got things rolling once again for FNU on a double that ran in Rodriguez. The mishaps continued to pile on for TBC and courtesy runner Jhonny Saez strolled home on an errant decision from the Eagles shortstop.

To its credit, TBC got on the board in the fifth thanks to a two-RBI base hit by second baseman Nate Nogueras. Despite some signs of life, FNU added six runs in the sixth to close the door on any opportunity TBC had to get a win on home turf. The Eagles ended the sixth with a three-run, three-hit performance. Closer Evan Dalmau ended things in the seventh on the mound with back-to-back strikeouts on Logan McGann and Ryan Onkst.

FNU posted two errors while TBC was credited with four and nine hits.

Up Next: FNU looks for the series sweep tomorrow with a noon doubleheader against TBC.
