Conquistadors exit WAU CAC Classic 0-2

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (Jan. 20, 2025) — Men's basketball (3-14) had another tough conference loss to close out the Washington Adventist University Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic Monday afternoon. The Fisher College Falcons (5-10) battled back in the second half for a solid 87-77 victory over FNU, dropping the Conquistadors to 2-3 against CAC opponents.

Florida National was in the driver's seat in the first half, holding a slight 32-29 lead at the break. Gary Adams was a major part of FNU's success in the opening period, as the junior went 4-6 from the free-throw line en route to a nine-point performance. FNU's shooting was excellent, especially from three-point specialist Matias Montezuma. The second-year guard went 2-2 from three and FNU entered the second half shooting 45.8%.

Fisher faced a seven-point deficit with 33 seconds remaining in the first but used the charity stripe to cut it to three. Eight different Falcons recorded at least one point in the period, paced by eight from Mekhi Dedrick. When play continued in the second, Ke'Andre Penceal put the Falcons up by nine after six minutes of play after FNU's offense was shut down significantly to start the final 20 minutes.

The Conquistadors were outscored 15-2 and were forced to play the rest of the half trailing just behind a rolling FC squad. The Falcons played smart in the closing period and Anthony Douglas Jr.'s 14 in the period was just enough to keep FNU from making a final run at a much-needed win. Notably, Jonathan Norman had a great half of basketball with 11 on 5-10 shooting in 23 minutes.

Adams led the way with 20 points to go along with four rebounds. Ismael Baqai and Jesus Rivas combined for 17, while Jeremy Arnum posted a respectable 12 points and six rebounds.

Up Next: FNU returns to the hardwood at the end of the month for a two-game classic hosted by Haskell Indian Nations University. FNU will face Northern New Mexico College on Jan. 31.
