Conquistadors take care of Fisher in its CAC Classic finale

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2025) — Florida National (3-12) got back in the win column after an assertive 98-88 victory over the Continental Athletic Conference's (CAC) Fisher College Falcons (3-8) Friday. FNU's Jeremy Arnum paced FNU's campaign with 30 points and four rebounds to bring home a 2-1 record in Temple Terrace, Fla.

Arnum was the difference maker with 16 points in the first half. The Conquistadors led 49-33 after one despite Fisher shooting a respectable 41.9% from the field and connecting on five of 11 three pointers attempted. Keith Rupert was Fisher's saving grace off the bench with an electric eight points, and FNU's Ismael Baqai put in work with 10 of the Conquistadors' 17 bench points in the frame.

Before the half was over, notably, sophomore Ralph Laurent found his shot with nine points on a 3-6 shooting performance in 16 minutes. When play resumed in the second, FNU put real daylight between itself and an outmatched Falcon squad through the final 20 minutes. Arnum continued to be spectacular, adding 14 points to the night's total. Gary Admas had another signature second half, posting 16 on a 6-9 display on the floor.

FC's Ke'Andre Penceal put his team on his shoulders, however, with a resounding 22 points. The Falcons made a late push thanks to Jordan Whitaker and the Aurora, Colo., native hit a clutch three to cut FNU's lead to 90-83 with 50 seconds remaining. Fisher proceeded to foul FNU on its final, lingering possessions and the Conquistadors went 8-3 from the charity stripe to deny Fisher a comeback victory.

Along with Arnum's big night, Adams was three rebounds shy of a double-double with 21 points and seven boards. Newcomer Baqai was stellar with 14, and Laurent ended the night with 15.

Up Next: FNU takes a nine-day hiatus before heading to Maryland for two contests at the Washington Adventist University CAC Classic from Jan. 19-20.
