Conquistador tennis has excellent showing at The Royal Dual

LAKE WALES, Fla. (Sept. 17, 2024) - Florida National University's men's and women's tennis team stood strong at its first tournament of the 2024-2025 season. At The Royal Dual hosted by Warner University, the Conquistadors faced a somewhat tri-match-like format, facing Rollins College and the Warner Royals.

The Conquistador women excelled past the Royals in singles and doubles play. Vanessa Simone bested her Royal opponent 6-1, 6-2, while Nadia Abad outlasted Camila Matos in a gritty 6-4, 6-1, 10-8 affair. FNU did not find similar success in its singles matches versus Rollins, falling in seven singles matches. Anna Lindelof Schmidt had the best showing in her 6-3, 3-4 unfinished match with Nina Mitrofanova.In doubles play, Simone and Schmidt had a thrilling 6-3 win over Warner but fell to Rollin's pair Nancy Liu and Amina Taibi 7-5.

The men's side of the action was a great sign of things to come in the spring. The RV Conquistadors had Lukas Nico Kopitzki defeat Warner's Barauna 6-3, 6-4. The Conquistadors hit a similar wall when facing Rollins, with Kopitzki and Fernando Arturo Munoz Miranda posting the best performances in an FNU uniform losing 6-2, 6-3.

Up Next: FNU will be at the ITA Regional in Lakeland, Fla., starting Sept. 19.
