FNU consumed by disciplined Keiser squad

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 7, 2024) — Florida National (1-3) fell victim to a well-organized Keiser University Seahawks squad Thursday. FNU has now lost 11 consecutive contests to the Seahawks since 2018.

Kaylee Llanos carried FNU in the first quarter, scoring seven points thanks to 1-3 shooting from three and a2-2 performance from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, KU's Mimmi Hahne impressed with 11 points in the quarter and all five starters for the home team recorded at least one point in the box score. The second period saw a breakout performance for freshman Valeria Castro

The guard from Doral Academy had a team-high 10 points off the bench. She found success with the three-pointer and quick attacks to the rim, shooting perfectly from the floor in the period.

Despite the freshman's efforts, KU blew the game open in the second, outscoring FNU 18-13. Leading 44-24 at the break, FNU needed to find answers to a well-organized and defensively sound KU team that did not leave much of a door open for FNU to make things interesting.

In the second half, Keiser closed the door on FNU with a brilliant 13-18 performance from the floor. The Seahawks scored 33 points but allowed 13 from Janelisse Marty Marrero. Center Lucia Luque and Llanos combined for nine in the frame and entered the fourth trailing by 28.

Keiser ended the fourth with just 10 points of offense but did most of the work to remain undefeated through the first three periods. Llanos connected on two threes in the quarter and had 10 points added to end her night with a team-high 24. Marty Marrero had 18 points on on7-13 shooting and Jaycee Omeir once again led the way with 6 rebounds.

Up Next: FNU is in Miami Shores, Fla., Nov. 13 for a 6 p.m. for exhibition against Barry University.
