Men’s tennis finishes final fall tournament

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2024) — Florida National's men's tennis team had a hard-fought weekend at the SEU Invitational hosted by the Southeastern University Fire. The Conquistadors completed eight opening-round singles and four doubles matches in a highly competitive draw at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex. 

FNU did not have a great run in doubles play, with duo Gustavo De Souza Do Prado Masu and Luigi Stefanacci advancing to the second round on an injury withdrawal. The pair later fell to SEU's Diego Menendez Vina and Piero Fernandez, 8-1. FNU went 0-3 in its other doubles matches but did significantly better in the red draw of the men's singles competition. 

Stefanacci was the lone Conquistador in the black draw and fell in his match to Eastern Florida State College's Salva Mulet. De Souza Do Prado Masu shines in the red draw, appearing in the final after two wins on Friday. Saint Leo University's Leonardo Pisa proved to be too much for the FNU sophomore to handle, and Pisa rolled to a 6-2 victory in Saturday's final. Ignacio Acosta also fell victim to Pisa in the semifinal round, losing 6-3, 6-4.  

Notably, Fernando Arturo Munoz Miranda put up a solid effort against fellow Sun Conference member and Ave Maria University Gyrenes, Joao Almeida. Miranda lost the opening set 6-4 before closing out the match with a 7-5 loss in the second frame.
