FNU closes chapter on 2025 ITA NAIA Men's and Women's Florida Regional Championships

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Sept. 28, 2025) — Florida National men's and women's tennis made its 2025-26 debut at the ITA NAIA Men's and Women's Florida Regional Championships hosted by Keiser University. On the courts of Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton, Fla., Conquistador men and women got valuable experience against tough conference opponents throughout the weekend tournament.

In the men's singles bracket, eight FNU men tackled the talent draw with Anis Kerfah and Lukas Nico Kopitzki scoring wins in their first matches. Sophomore Kerfah defeated Ave Maria University's Joao Felipe Almeida 6-1 in the first set before claiming a close set two on a 10-4 tiebreaker. Kerfah later fell at the hands of SCAD Savannah's Adam Jaupart 6-1, 6-0.

Kopitzki placed a similar fate, rolling past Southeastern University's Aristeidis Lafazanos 6-2 in the first set before closing the match 7-6 in the following game. Keiser's Matej Laibl ultimately eliminated Kopitzki with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Moreover, Fernando Arturo Munoz Miranda, David Santamaria, Finn Collins, Marc Lafarga and Daniele Trentin had first-round byes before falling in their subsequent matches by large margins. Notably, Alejandro Suarez defeated SCAD Savannah's Gonzalo Lopez Aliaga. 

The FNU women saw solid performances from Julia Chodkowska and Chiara Fiorenza in the main singles' court. Chodkowska battles St. Thomas University standout Sezin Akin before falling in a respectable 6-4, 6-1 match. Fiorenza fell 6-4, 6-2 in her contest against SCAD's Erin Passmore. Celeste Deniz Reyes faced a tough task against former TSC Player of the Year and Keiser's Violet Apisah. Apisah went on to score back-to-back 6-0 wins versus Reyes and Julieta Deniz Reyes fell to SCAD's Jessica Johnson 6-1, 6-0. Valeria Labrador Perez's contest against STU's Sachely Carrera ended with the FNU junior falling 6-4, 6-3.

The Conquistadors had their doubles pair of Chodkowska and Fiorenza fall in the round of 16 to Carrera and Caterina Antonini. To continue, another SCAD doubles pair of Lisa Konrad and Rumi Kim bested FNU's Julieta Deniz Reyes and Celeste Deniz Reyes in the doubles court 8-2.
