Banyans root out Conquistadors in a pair of shutout losses

BRADENTON, Fla. (March 27, 2026) — Florida National men's (0-3) and women's tennis (0-4) continue their search for a Sun Conference win in 2026, conceding 4-0 defeats to the New College of Florida Banyans (5-5, 3-7) Friday. This was the first meeting between these Florida NAIA institutions, and both FNU teams are now 0-3 in TSC play.

For the Conquistador women, Celeste Deniz Reyes and Valeria Labrador Perez's 6-0 defeat at the hands of Emilia Schulte and Itza Rogel was enough to put NCF up 1-0. FNU did not have a third doubles pair, and Julia Chodkowska and Julieta Deniz Reyes's match was left unfinished. The FNU pair trailed 3-2 opposite Camila Cardona-Carballosa and Madeleine Chellas.

Julieta Deniz Reyes fell 6-3, 6-1 to Chellas, and with two forfeits on the singles court, NCF was able to close out the match with ease. Labrador Perez left her competition without a result, trailing 6-0, 4-2, while Chodkowska and Celeste Deniz Reyes were tied 5-5 in their respective battles.

Men's doubles play was a competitive showdown, with FNU's Daniele Trentin and Alejandro Suarez falling 7-6 [6-3] to Pedro Lemos and Konstantin Kukaras. NCF's Carlos Quinones and Timothy Phung faced similar resistance versus FNU's Mick Leyers and Lukas Nico Kopitzki before coming away with the 7-6 [7-2] triumph. To round things off, NCF got the sweep in doubles with a 6-3 win from pair Patrick Janikian and Hugo Fidler over partners Dex Leyers and Mats-Jonathan Werner.

With play moving to singles action, Lemos was stout with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mick Leyers. Dex Leyers suffered a similar fate with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat versus Kukaras. Quinones' 6-2, 6-1 win over Kopitzki clinched the home win for the Banyans, leaving Suarez's, Ignacio Joaquin Ibañez's and Trentin's games on the singles courts with no results.
