FNU sweeps Eagles in morning doubleheader

MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2024) - Florida National (17-2) got a great start to its Tuesday morning after delivering two 3-0 victories over Trinity Baptist College (0-18). In six sets, FNU overpowered the Eagles on the main floor of the Miami Hype Volleyball Club.

The first match saw the Conquistadors take a convincing 25-9, 25-17, and 26-6 set wins before ending the afternoon 25-7, 25-16, 25-11 in their game two sweeps. TBC collected 11 kills in the opener while Florida National went to work at the net for 39. Kitula Amaya Morales was the driving force of FNU attack with nine kills and seven digs. Sofia Moreno Bendala also had a noteworthy performance with a block and an impressive six kills. 

FNU dominated from start to finish in game one, utilizing its bench for a stunning performance. Nine different players recorded a kill before the Conquistadors used a block from Elis Cordova Millet to gain their first match point of the morning. Ivette Sandoval also made a statement with 20 assists and 10 digs for a notable double-double in her first home match of 2024.

Game two was another FNU classic, where the Conquistadors jumped ahead to win the opener by nine points. Newcomers Daviona Bernard and Keelee Okoro shined both defensively and offensively, combining for 13 kills in the win. Sara Lizano Joya was everywhere with a team-high eight digs to go along with seven kills. Joya also ended the afternoon with two service aces. 

These victories mark the seventh straight win for Florida National against the Eagles. FNU holds a 7-0 record opposite Trinity Baptist dating back to their first meeting in October 2015.
