HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 21, 2024) — Florida National's women's tennis team completed another competitive tournament last weekend at the BarryU Invitational hosted by the NCAA DII Barry Buccaneers. The Conquistadors battled tough opponents representing Barry and St. Thomas University from Oct. 19-20. 

Day one of doubles saw FNU duo Julia Chodkowska and Vanessa Simone claim the only Conquistador win, defeating their opponents 6-3. Alara Juelide Akgul and Stefani Evgenieva Georgieva missed the mark in their match 1-6, while veteran Fabiola Bsereni teamed up with Lavinia Anais Karadža for a 3-6 loss.

Notably, Chodkowska was the star of her singles match on the first day of the tournament. She defeated her St. Thomas opponent by a dominant score of 6-1, 6-0. Chodkowska also grabbed another singles victory against the Bobcats 7-5, 6-2 before play ended on the courts of the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The following day, Simone and Chodkowska partnered once again for FNU's only doubles victory in six matches. Georgieva left a great impression with a stunning 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 win in her final match of the tournament, displaying real determination after falling behind early.
