FNU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SUFFERS LOSS TO UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS IN THE UPIKE TIP-OFF CLASSIC

PIKEVILLE, KY – Florida National University Women's Basketball team suffered a tough loss to the University of the Cumberlands on Friday night (Oct. 25th) in the UPIKE TIP-OFF CLASSIC played at the University of Pikeville at Pikeville, KY.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • UC entered the first quarter and looked very sharp early, opening up a sizable lead while making it count from the free throw line, going 14-16 from the stripe in the first ten minutes of play.
  • Cumberlands would lead 27-11 after the first but then the offense went a bit quiet. Outscored by six in the frame, the Patriots lead would drop to ten at 40-30 at the break.
  • In the second half though, it was all Patriots. Going 11-14 from the free throw line the rest of the way through helped, but so did shooting over 50% from the field in the final 20 minutes of action.
  • With a 64-47 lead after three, UC would pull away in the fourth quarter for the 88-62 win over the Conquistadors.
GAME STATS:
  • FNU shot 36.5% from the field on 23-of-63 shooting overall but was hot from the field in the first quarter, hitting 45.45%.
  • FNU shot 21.9% from downtown on 7-of-32 shooting.
  • FNU recorded 40.9 FT% on 9-of-22 shooting overall.
  • University of the Cumberlands hit 51.8% of its shots from the paint and 25.0% from the long range.
  • Applying the pressure on the defensive side, the Conquistadors forced 27 turnovers and recorded 9 steals.
FNU HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Adria Stewart scored a team high 17 points, and added 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
  • Brianna Richardson noted 14 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal, going 5-of-11 from the field and 2-for-7 from Downtown.
  • Brandilyn Robertson came of the bench to led the Conquistadors on the boards with 7 rebounds and she also scored 10 points and recorded one assist.
  • Anita Donaque-Solan came off the bench with 12 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field and she also recorded four rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • FNU record now is 1-1 this season.
  • FNU away record to 1-1.
  • 8 players saw at least ten minutes of action for the Conquistadors.
  • The University of the Cumberlands out-rebounded Florida National 46-27 in the contest.
