Women’s soccer breaks program record for goals in a game in win over Florida Polytechnic

HIALEAH, Fla. (Sept. 26, 2026) — Conquistador women's soccer (1-5-1) was an offensive juggernaut in a tremendous 17-0 win over Florida Polytechnic University (0-6-0). Latyfath Ubeda paced the team with four goals while goalkeeper Scarlett Veloza garnered two saves in her first match of 2026.

This was Florida National's first match with over 10 goals since the program started in 2017. The previous record was set at the 2024 USCAA Women's Soccer Championship in a 9-0 win over Carlow University. But FNU's performance Saturday against FPU Phoenix was an incredible display of dominance from the first whistle.

Six minutes into the match, Melina Tideman Gyberg broke the ice with a goal assisted by Maria Franca. What followed was back-to-back goals by Latyfath Ubeda that preceded a successful shot on goal from Mara Graef. Mette Battling joined in on the action with two scores in the 24th and 33rd minutes to make it a 6-0 affair.

Sara Borges Rodrigues was the final Conquistador to score, with four minutes left in the half. Veloza had a relatively quiet afternoon, with no FPU shots aimed in her direction throughout the half. Sofia Lorusso added two more goals to her lone score against New College of Florida on Aug. 25. Graef, Julieta Stradella (3), Ubeda and Tideman Gyberg added the finishing touches to the match with their goal in the final stretch of the second half.

FNU tallied an impressive 64 shots (a program record for shots in a game) with 39 on goal. FPU keeper Despina Sinapidi ended a tough evening with 22 saves.

Up Next: Florida National takes its talents to Lake Wales, Fla., for a 5 p.m. match against the Warner University Royals.
