HIALEAH, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2026) — Conquistador men's soccer (4-3-0) produced a solid offensive performance to deliver a 4-1 win over the New College of Florida Banyans (1-3-1) Sept. 16. The Conquistadors were led by Alex Tabachnikov and David Luque Rivero, with one goal apiece from the upperclassmen on home turf.

FNU was off to the races in the first period, forcing a handball on a corner kick delivered into the box by captain Juan Pugin. This set the stage for Luque Rivero to bury the first of four scores for the Conquistadors on an expertly taken penalty kick. This was the highlight of the first half, as FNU headed to the break with 14 shots and a save for keeper Ignacio Pacheco. The Banyans tallied seven shots, including a few great opportunities from striker Cameron Johnson that went off target under pressure from FNU's backline.

Notably, Michael Olszewski was finding great opportunities in the first half and ended the match with four shots. 

The second period proved to be more dramatic for both squads. Luque Rivero, Tabachnikov, Juan Ignacio Munoz Arbizu and NCF's goalkeeper Emmanuel Beltran were all given yellow cards at different points in the frame. Despite added tension in the middle of the pitch, FNU controlled the game with three clutch scores through the final 45. Shunto Tanaka got things started with a goal off a pass from Tabachnikov in the 53rd, and Tabachnikov captured a goal for himself (his first with FNU) two minutes later on a pass/shot deflection from Pablo Goyet. In the 57th, NCF responded down 3-0 with a put-back goal by Angel Frias.

Frias grabbed the ball from Pacheco with great urgency to restart the contest, but FNU essentially iced the game with a beautiful, high-arching cross into the penalty area by Luque Rivero for Yosuke Shimizu's 78th-minute stunner. Notably, Vitor Caetano Pedrosa played the final nine minutes of the match for Pacheco, posting two saves.

Luque Rivero adds to his 2026 goal total, posting six goals and three assists in seven matches. FNU is now 2-2-0 all-time against NCF and earned its first win over the Banyans since 2023.
