Men’s soccer faces 4-1 setback against RV Bobcats

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Sept. 10, 2026) — Florida National's (3-3-0) rocky first half led to its first loss in three matches, succumbing to the RV St. Thomas University Bobcats (2-3-0) Thursday, 4-1. Second half goalkeeper Vitor Caetano Pedrosa posted three saves in the loss, as the Conquistadors avoided the shutout on David Luque Rivero's fifth goal of the season in the 86th minute.

The first half saw the Bobcats capitalize on the Conquistadors' early defensive coverage mistakes, using a deflection and a pass from Juan Braz to set up a goal for Lucas Caferra in the 4th minute. Braz came back to haunt the Conquistadors in the 23rd with a successful header off a corner delivered by Julien Laborde to make it a 2-0 affair.

Meanwhile, FNU was frustrated offensively and only posted one shot by Luque Rivero in the half compared to five from STU. Moreover, Julian Ramirez put the final touches on a brilliant half for the Bobcats, scoring in the 40th minute on a smart pass from Thiago Patto.

Pacheco was under some real pressure in the opening frame, bringing in no saves on five shots faced for the Argentine. Veteran Caetano Pedrosa took over duties at the net in the second half, as STU was relentless through the final 45 minutes of action. They registered 13 shots to FNU's three and with under a minute into the second half, Laborde captured the fourth score of the match with an unassisted stunner.

The Conquistadors have Luque Rivero's fifth goal in four games to thank for a one-goal evening, as Dylan Robert Ray Frank Gibbs was credited with the assist. FNU drops to 3-8-4 against the Bobcats since 2015, its last victory coming during the 2020 season.

Up Next: FNU is back in action Sept. 16 at Milander Park, hosting New College of Florida for a noon match.
