Baseball’s 2026 season comes to a close in a loss to USSU Eagles

DUBOIS, Pa. (May 12, 2026) — Florida National baseball (24-27) fell to the United States Sports University Eagles (25-20) 7-3 in an elimination game at the USCAA Small College World Series. The Conquistadors ended their 2026 campaign with 21 runs and 25 hits over their three games in DuBois, Pa.

Pitcher Cole Philips got the start for Florida National, keeping the Eagles at bay until he conceded back-to-back home runs in the third. Evan Jacob and Dominick Hartman delivered the out-of-the-park shots to put their team ahead 3-0, ending Philips' appearance in the contest.

Brandon Saunders was the next pitcher on the bump, but also fell victim to a Jacob homer in the fourth. Andrew Garza made it a 6-0 lead for USSU with a single down the right field line, but a two-RBI home run to center field by Christopher Rivera in the sixth put FNU back in contention.

The Eagles added one more run in the sixth thanks to a sacrifice fly out by Hayden Jones, and FNU had runners on board in the seventh, but were limited to just one final score on a single by Abel Gutierrez in the loss.

Notably, Aliozmany Alonzo was great down the stretch for Florida National, ending 2026 with just one earned run through 2.1 frames.
