Conquistadors drop CAC Tournament opener to Westcliff

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (April 29, 2026) — Florida National baseball (22-24) ran into another worthy conference foe, falling 17-7 to the Westcliff University Warriors (26-20) in its first game of the 2026 Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament. FNU conceded 10 runs in the final two frames, ending play after eight innings in Lawrenceville, Ga.

This was the first meeting between these two teams in either program's history, and it did not disappoint. WU took an early 5-3 lead after four innings, with FNU scoring runs by Cesar Mora on a passed ball, an RBI single by Abel Gutierrez, and on a throwing error by catcher Kolby Wagatsuma.

Braden Parmley got the start for FNU, going four innings for one earned run and four walks. Cole Philips was handed over duties at the mound and had a tough go of it with five earned runs and five walks in 2.2 frames.

Despite these struggles, FNU had a solid sixth on a sacrifice fly by James Snyder and a double by CAC Co-Freshman of the Year Alejandro De Armas to level things at five runs apiece. Unfortunately, Westcliff's offense was undeniable with seven unanswered scores through the sixth and the seventh.

Snyder continued to produce at the dish, launching a two-RBI home run in the eighth. His efforts, however, did not stop WU from ending things early with a run by Ben Carter on FNU's third wild pitch of the evening. Snyder had a two-of-three afternoon from the plate while Sosa, Mora and De Armas tallied two hits apiece.

Up Next: FNU faces Carolina University on day two in Lawrenceville, Ga., with its NAIA postseason hopes in the balance.
