Errors the difference in two close losses to No. 22 STU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 21, 2026) — Softball (24-15) posted two competitive games against the NAIA's No. 22-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats (29-16) Tuesday, falling 2-1 in game one before earning a shutout 5-0 loss to end its evening in Miami Gardens, Fla.

To start things off on the road, Florida National allowed a Maggie Kirk home run in the first before STU doubled its advantage with a Jade Fayad RBI single in the third. Sophia White got the start to open her team's final doubleheader of 2026 and had another solid showing in the circle. White allowed one earned run off the Bobcat home run but kept runners at bay with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Despite eight STU hits, FNU was still hanging around in the fourth when a single by White ran in Alyssa Julien for the lone score of the afternoon. FNU's Carollann McClelland got on board with a base hit in the seventh, but strikeouts from Diana Anda and Ava Baronick, along with a pop out for Kyra Rigozzi, ended FNU's efforts in the frame.

Game two was a tough outing for FNU's defense, allowing five unearned Bobcat runs in the defeat. STU's Ashley Ramon and former Conquistador Emma Edwards made it home on errors in the first and fourth frames, respectively. The Bobcats added three more scores in the fifth, including a two-score single by Bailey LeGere.

Pitcher Brunella Beteta recorded two strikeouts through six innings, allowing six STU hits. FNU is now 10-19 all-time against STU and has not defeated the Bobcats since the 2024 season (0-10 in as many meetings).

Up Next: FNU is one of five teams headed to the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship, starting April 29 in Lawrenceville, Ga.
