SUNRISE, Fla. (April 20, 2026) — Florida National softball (24-13) grabbed its fourth win in two weeks against the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles (10-28), defeating the home team 11-1 in five innings before sweeping the day with a 1-0 win in game two.
To open things up in Sunrise, Fla., FNU softball used an impressive hitting and pitching performance from starter Sophia White to run-rule the opposing Eagles. The junior allowed no earned runs and a pair of walks while going three-for-three from the dish for five RBIs.
Diana Anda also had a brilliant afternoon, posting two RBIs and a hit. The Eagles' Sarah Messina and Tavyn Gage were responsible for their team's two hits, while White took care of business in the fifth to make it a quick hour-and-17-minute affair in game one.
When play resumed, FNU found itself in a closer contest but still came away with the one-run victory. Brunella Beteta did her job from the circle, recording eight strikeouts and a walk en route to a shutout triumph. Senior and former Eagle Alissia Vega recorded her team's lone RBI, running in Beteta with a base hit.
Collectively, UFTL had just one hit in the loss by Messina and were once again shut down on offense by a tough FNU team on the clay. FNU retains its longest win streak against UFTL, dating back to April 2025 (5-0).
