FNU suffers winless afternoon in Duval

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 18, 2026) — Conquistador baseball (22-19) had a walk-off home run and a 16-run explosion by the Trinity College of Jacksonville Eagles (17-19) earn them 5-4 and 16-1 losses on the road. Game one was highlighted by a two-for-three performance by Dwayne Dabian and Christopher Rivera posted two hits the following contest.

TCJ's Dominic Gattinella got his team on the board first with an RBI double to right center field before Dabian's triple in the second leveled the game once more on a run scored by Fausto Sanchez. At the bottom of the frame, Larson Lott's sacrifice fly out to left ran in Logan McGann for an unearned score.

FNU continued to threaten TCJ's fragile lead, making it a 2-2 affair in the fourth with an RBI double by Abel Gutierrez and taking a one-run lead on a Dabian single in the same inning. Catcher Cesar Mora gave his team a two-run advantage with a one-score base hit in the fifth, but Trinity caused major trouble for FNU's pitching staff in the final inning.

The Conquistadors started Antonio Guzman, who went five innings for a pair of strikeouts and one earned run, before sending Brandon Saunders, Alexander Newman and Jose Chavez to the mound. TCJ tied the game in the sixth with a single by Richaun Amaro and an unearned run on an error by Dwayne Dabian. Gadriel Burgos was the hero for the home team, hanging a solo home run on pitch by Chavez to give his team a hard-fought 5-4 victory.

The second of the two games from Jacksonville, Fla., for FNU was not the tightly contested battle of game one, as FNU was shutout 16-0 through five frames. Starting pitcher Julio Amoedo went for three innings, allowing five earned runs despite picking up the lone four strikeouts for FNU in the loss. Amoedo, Caleb Lambdin, Edgar Santos, Scott Hiller and Nicholas Gioia allowed 17 hits and three walks.

Ten different Eagles recorded at least one hit, with shortstop Richaun Amaro going three-for-four from the dish. FNU avoided the shutout thanks to a Rivera double in the sixth, forcing in a run by Jesus Sosa.

FNU holds a 0-5 record against TCJ in as many games, dropping to 22-13 since 2018.
