Softball shows out in Senior Day sweep of UFTL Eagles

WESTON, Fla. (April 13, 2026) — Conquistador softball (22-13) used a four-for-four performance from Alisha Lanyon and a home run derby by Gianna Hall to earn 8-1 and 5-1 wins over the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles (10-24). Hall's eighth home run in 2026 is a new single-season record, as FNU moves to 7-5 all-time against Fort Lauderdale.

Florida National jumped to a 2-1 lead in game one following a run by Brunella Beteta on an error by the UFTL second baseman in the second. A Lanyon single in the third ran in Alyssa Julien to make it a 3-1 affair, kick-starting a 4-0 scoring tear by the home team.

Errors in the infield continued to plague UFTL, with Lanyon scoring on a misstep by the Eagles' third baseman before the third was completed. An Isabella Silva sacrifice fly in the sixth, an RBI base hit from Julien, and a two-run homer from Hall in the sixth capped off a brilliant performance for the Conquistadors in Weston, Fla.

Beteta grabbed her tenth win of 2026, pitching six innings for nine of FNU's 11 strikeouts. Before starting game two for FNU, senior Brylea Rusler threw the final frame and allowed no runs with a pair of strikeouts from the circle.

Game two was another strong performance for Lanyon, with the infielder scoring the opening run with a triple to force in Silva in the first. UFTL got on the board later on to make it a 1-1 game with an RBI ground out by Kaylee Wilt, but FNU recorded four unanswered runs through the third, fifth, and sixth frames. Hall was essential during this stretch, posting an RBI sacrifice fly out to eight in the sixth and her record-breaking home run in the fifth.

Peyton Knight and Rusler pitched the first five innings, with Rusler grabbing three strikeouts and Knight allowing no runs. Sophia White closed out the game with just one hit on the books and a pair of strikeouts.

Before both games, FNU recognized seven seniors for their hard work and dedication to FNU softball over the last three to four seasons. Rusler, Knight, Lanyon, Julien, Alissia Vega, Martrece Boyd and Beteta all walked the bases with their families to commemorate the occasion.

Up Next: FNU has a road trip set for April 20 against UFTL starting at 2 p.m.
