FNU’s resilience lands them an extra-innings win Saturday

VIERA, Fla. (March 7, 2026) — Florida National softball (12-10) displayed great toughness in a close 1-0 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene University (6-4) and a 5-2 victory in nine frames versus Judson University (2-11). FNU used a three-run burst in the top of the ninth to close out the Eagles and earn another undefeated showing from the Space Coast.

Against Mount Vernon, Florida National earned its seventh consecutive win off a single from Gianna Hall towards center field that ran in outfielder Isabella Silva in the fourth. MVNZ's pitcher Makenzie Delaney went for a solid six innings in the circle for the team out of Ohio and posted two strikeouts en route to her third loss this season.

As for FNU, Sophia White had a near-perfect game and allowed just four hits through 24 MVNZ at-bats. FNU's top three hitters on its lineup card (Silva, Alyssa Julien and Hall) were responsible for the team's three hits in the contest.

Opposite Judson, Florida National took a 1-0 lead in the first before the Eagles tied up the match in the third. Back-to-back one-score performances for each team in the eighth inning were a prelude to an impressive three-score burst for Florida National in the ninth. Judson was unable to counter in the bottom of the frame and was finally outlasted by the high-powered Conquistador offense.

Infielder Alisha Lanyon was critical to FNU's success the entire ball game after grabbing an RBI single in the first inning on a full count. Lanyon later sealed the deal for FNU in the ninth with a two-RBI home run against starting pitcher Madi Palmatier.

Up Next: Florida National wraps up a busy week with games against Grace College and Bellevue University beginning at 10 a.m.
