Softball scores two five-inning wins against BUF

WESTON, Fla. (March 17, 2026) — Conquistador softball (20-12) made it seven consecutive seasons with at least twenty wins, grabbing five-inning triumphs against the Baptist University of Florida Eagles (1-19) on Tuesday. FNU tallied 19 hits against the Eagles to move to 7-3 at Vista Park.

To start things off on a cold, cloudy March day, Florida National was under pressure after falling behind 3-0 in the first. Lacey Goddin delivered a two-score double to start things off before BUF's Janni Murray connected on an RBI single in the inning. The Conquistadors responded with 11 unanswered runs through the bottom of the first, third and fourth innings.

Alisha Lanyon got things rolling with a single up the middle to score Isabella Silva before Gianna Hall scored on a wild pitch from starter Harley Daniels. Lanyon ended the game two-for-two from the batter's box, the best showing for the Conquistadors in game one. In the third, pitcher Sophia White blasted a bases-clearing, three-run double to centerfield to make it a 5-3 FNU lead.

FNU was able to sure things up with a six-run fourth frame, highlighted by Bianca Bartow's first collegiate homer that sailed past the fence in left field. Notably, White's eight strikeout helped the junior record 200 collegiate strikeouts.

Game two was a dominant showing for FNU, allowing just one run from the Eagles on Murray's RBI single in the fourth. Besides that, FNU controlled most of the game with a 2-0 lead after two. Alissia Vega started things off strong with a one-score single in the second before Silva flew out to left to run in Ariel Obregon. Obregon and Lainie Schroeder scored on a pair of errors by Murray and Goddin, adding to FNU's hefty lead in the fifth.

Starting pitcher Brunella Beteta walked no batters, posted one strikeout, and improved to 9-6 from the circle in 2026.
