A Bartow single helps FNU split final games on the Space Coast

VIERA, Fla. (March 14, 2026) — Conquistador softball (18-12) scored a 1-0, eight-inning victory over Lawrence Tech University (10-5) Saturday before falling to Cornerstone University (9-8) 9-1 in five. Catcher Bianca Bartow delivered an RBI single in the top of the eighth to put away Lawrence in FNU's final evening on the Space Coast.

Game one starting pitcher Sophia White kept an offensively sound LTU team off the board despite nine hits. White walked just one batter and went to work for five strikeouts from the circle. Both teams were able to get their players on base, with FNU tallying 10 batters left on board while LTU had nine.

Entering a scoreless game in the eighth, Alyssa Julien advanced to third on a groundout for Carollann McClelland at third base, and LTU picked up another much-needed out on a pop-up from Kyra Rigozzi. Luckily, Alisha Lanyon was hit by a pitch on FNU's next at-bat, and Bartow was able to execute on a clutch RBI base hit on a full count to put FNU ahead 1-0. FNU's defense took care of the rest, as White picked up a strikeout in the bottom of the frame and FNU used its infield to grab crucial outs.

Bartow had the best outing at the plate with a three-for-four performance, owning half of FNU's hits in the contest.

In the Conquistadors' game against Cornerstone, pitcher Kara Sandberg gave FNU a hard time and allowed just one run on a sacrifice fly by Bartow in the fourth. A Morgan Jenkins single and a double by Anna Griffioen put the Eagles up 4-0 through the first four frames, and five unanswered runs in the fifth were enough to put things away for FNU in an 83-minute contest.

Brunella Beteta went four innings for FNU in the loss, tallying the team's only strikeout. Ava Baronick took over for the final frame and allowed three hits and a pair of walks.

Up Next: FNU hosts Baptist University of Florida on March 17, starting at noon.
