Game Recap: Baseball | | Brenda Bogle

Baseball makes it five straight wins behind big afternoon from Sosa

VERO BEACH, Fla. (March 10, 2026) — Shortstop Jesus Sosa recorded three hits in four trips to the plate to lead Florida National baseball (14-9) to a 6-5 win against Penn State Greater Allegheny (2-6) Tuesday. FNU also scored a 5-1 triumph against Penn State York (0-4) earlier in the day, improving to 5-1 over its last six games.

Versus PSUGA, Florida National fell behind in the first after a single from Henry Dickman scored Lion Duston Strom and Justin Rosa - Pinero made it home on an error by first baseman Ben Shaffer. Brendan Ford got the start in this one, posting three innings and a pair of strikeouts. Moreover, PSUGA and Strom made it a 3-0 affair on a sacrifice fly by the shortstop in the second, and it wasn't until the fourth that FNU began to turn things around.

Outfielder James Snyder kicked off FNU's run with a triple to run in Oscar Orta before Shaffer delivered a textbook sac fly to center field to run in Snyder. Abel Gutierrez was the next Conquistador to score a run, this time off a single by center fielder Noe Davila. Unfortunately, Strom continued to keep things interesting and within reach for the Lions, connecting on a two-score base hit in the fourth to put his team ahead 5-3.

FNU was able to put away the Lions with a huge seventh inning, led by a much-needed two-run double from Sosa. Gino Gazzillo followed up his teammates' heroics with a sac fly to right field to run in Andres Penate Jr., before Sosa scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Joshua Baker.

Defensively, Nicholas Gioia was able to grab the win with a two-inning performance where he collected two strikeouts. Closer Evan Dalmau ended things with a quick two-strikeout performance in the final frame, facing just three at-bats. Aliozmany Alonzo also saw action on the mound, allowing one hit and grabbing two strikeouts in 0.2 innings of work.

Up Next: FNU and Fisher meet for a four-game conference series starting Friday at noon from Ernest R Graham Park.
