Ferreira’s 88th-minute stunner secures first conference win for the Conquistadors

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 4, 2026) — Florida National (2-6-1) used a last-second goal from newcomer Luiza Ferreira to best the visiting Fisher College Falcons (5-2-3) at Milander Park. This was FNU's first program win against Fisher and improved the Conquistadors to 1-0-0 in conference action this season.

The first half of this Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) clash in South Florida was dominated by the home team. FNU was responsible for 10 of the 11 shots attempted in the first 45 minutes, keeping FC goalie Audrina Pelton busy with a pair of saves in the early goings of the match. In the 24th minute, Mette Battling got a great look at a header that just smacked the edge of the post and sprang out back into play. Mara Graef had a great first half with three shots that just missed the mark for the Conquistadors heading into the break.

The second half was more of the same for the Falcons in the middle of the pitch, as FC struggled to keep possession of the ball and control of the pace of the match. FNU, on the other hand, continued to press, and both teams called the referee's attention in their attempts to make up ground in the closing minutes. Latyfath Ubeda and Natalya Paula were shown yellow cards in the 50th and 52nd minutes, respectively, as Melina Tideman Gyberg and Mette Battling were also shown a yellow by the main official late in the half.

Pelton had another strong half, posting incredible diving saves to end the period with eight. Unfortunately for the visiting Falcons, Ferreira finally had the breakthrough her team was looking for, lacing a perfectly delivered ball from teammate Graef and Battling with just over a minute left to play. This was Ferreira's first goal of 2026, and it could not have come at a better time for the sophomore from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Fisher returns to Boston, Mass., 1-1 after defeating Florida College Saturday afternoon. Notably, FNU was able to rebound from a 4-0 midweek loss to Warner University, improving to 2-1 over its last three games.

Up Next: FNU heads to Florida College Oct. 10 for a 4 p.m. road match.
