Women’s soccer claims fourth win in five matches, defeats Webber 1-0

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2026) — Florida National women's soccer (4-6-1) continues to boast an impressive offensive run, outlasting Webber International University (4-9-0), 1-0 on the road. Forward Mara Graef's 80th-minute goal was the difference in an early afternoon clash against the Webber Warriors Saturday, earning the program its first win over WIU since its first meeting in 2018.

The first half of Florida National's seventh match in program history against WIU ended in a scoreless deadlock. FNU was held at bay with two shots by Maria Franca and Ellen Meijer totaling its offensive production. WIU keeper Brylee Kamm saved both Conquistador shot attempts, while Webber managed eight shots on the opposite side of the pitch that did not manifest into a much-needed score. Notably, Scarlett Veloza dove for five saves before the break, as FNU looked to get more opportunities at the start of the final 45 minutes of play.

FNU's long-awaited breakthrough arrived in the 80th minute of play, with Graef doing it on her own for the German strikers' fourth score of 2026. This was FNU's lone shot of the half, and five Webber attempts could not make the difference when they needed it most. Veloza was stellar in crunch time with a pair of saves to end the match with seven, while WIU's Amanda Liljeblad and Elisabet Olafiudottir recorded the only yellow cards of the match in the 53rd and 70th minutes, respectively.

Notably, this is the first time FNU has tallied four wins since the 2024 season.
