Nine goals highlight a superb home finale for FNU women’s soccer

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2026) — Conquistador women's soccer (5-6-1) dominated its final home game of the 2026 season, boasting a 9-0 rout of fellow Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) team Florida College (2-11-0), Thursday. Mette Battling led this offensive run with three goals in the first half and a pair of assists before the clock ran out at Milander Park.

These teams previously squared off on October 10, and Florida National headed home from Temple Terrace, Fla., with a 3-0 victory under its belt. Battling was great in that win with an assist on Julieta Stradella's goal in the 32nd minute, but nothing compares to the offensive performance the German forward produced Thursday.

FNU's first of nine goals came in the seventh minute on an unassisted put-back score for Battling and preceded a 17th-minute goal for Battling set up by a heads-up pass by midfielder Maria Franca. Fellow German teammate Mara Graef got in on the action with a stellar shot that found the back of the net in the 22nd. Notably, Alba Sanchez's great work in the middle of the field freed up Graef for the score, and the two connected on a series of passes on Battling's third goal of the period (24th minute).

FC had no answer for FNU in the first half, recording no shots and forcing no corner kicks. Latyfath Ubeda was another issue for the Falcons, posting back-to-back goals within three minutes of each other with 12 minutes left to play in the half. At the break, FNU tallied 18 shots and would end the match with 34 to the Falcons' three.

The final 45 minutes saw Andrea Oropeza take over the goalkeeping duties from starter Scarlett Veloza. Oropeza earned the lone two saves for the Conquistadors while FNU secured its dominant win with goals from Melina Tideman Gyberg and Graef in the 49th and 71st minutes, respectively. Moreover, junior Natalya Laura Paula used a high-arching shot that just sneaked over the line to record her first goal of 2026 and the final score for the Conquistadors on home turf.

Florida National remains undefeated against CAC opponents (3-0-0) and awaits seeding and selection to the CAC Tournament in early November.
